This video is a straight uninterrupted presentation of Polly Higgins talk at St Mary Le Bow's Church in the City of London. I included the slides to break the visual monotony. The room was very dark and my tripod had broken on the way there so its a bit shaky in parts.
Polly Higgins presents herself as the Earth's lawyer. For the last seven years Polly has worked solely towards the implementation of a fifth Crime against Peace, in international law, that of Ecocide.
Ecocide:The extensive destruction, damage to or loss of ecosystems(s) of a given territory, whether by human agency or by other causes, to such an extent that peaceful employment by the inhabitants of that territory has been severely diminished.
The talk is 52 minutes long and I found it immensely interesting not merely because of the fascinating content but also because of the way Polly speaks. It is clear that every effort is being made to be understood by lay people whose knowledge of international law is compromised. I certainly appreciated the window she provides into international law and how it functions and why the implementation of Ecocide is so important to peace and to saving our damaged planet.
